An SEM’s Look At Keyword Marketing

Keyword Marketing
Keyword marketing is one of the most difficult aspects of web management to master. There are several types of web users. These groups of web users are divided by education level, culture, dialect. A university graduate will not use the same keywords as someone who is new to the web.
In a perfect world, webmasters could make a list of the best 50 keywords and use them through their whole website. Each group uses their own keywords. These target demographics include:
- Surfers
- People looking for free information and downloads
- Shoppers
- Comparison shoppers
- People who reach the website accidentally
Unfortunately, the search engines do not like seeing more than 5 keyword phrases on a website, and they have started penalizing misspellings in their attempt to eliminate spam.
Google Guru, Matt Cutts reminds webmasters that keyword-stuffing can cause the website to be banned or receive a penalization. Google starts red-flagging a website for more than 5% density. There are a few ways to avoid this problem Even Cutts suggests that webmasters write for people, not search engines:
Cutts says, new material falls into the common-sense category. It’s all about your business. "If I’m a plumber in Iowa, I may want to write about some of the strange things that happen to me on the job, or the five most common ways to fix a toilet," he says. "That kind of content can get really popular, and it’s a great way to get links." Folks will post your piece on one of the social media sites. And with links comes higher Google rankings. Use Tags
The tags need to be employed properly. PHP and databases made life easier for designers, but harder for SEO professionals. Webmasters should continue to use individual <title>, <description>, and <meta keywords> in plain English. Cutt’s admits that Google gives little relevance to the keywords. Some professionals claim that they are valuable when combined with Heading titles in the content.
Use Keywords in the Headings
Do not worry about putting keywords in the content. Use Heading tags. When a page is finished, run a keyword density tool over the page. It only takes a moment, and can prevent problems later.
Content
Write the content to sell. Do not worry about keyword density or search engines. The Tags and Heading titles will offer enough SEO value to put the page on the top of the search pages. The only SEO element that needs to be added to the content is the Keyword Anchored Text.
The keyword anchored text pages will add value, especially on the Yahoo search engine. All together these elements can lift a webpage to the top of the search lists.
