Using HubPages to Create Quality Backlinks
| Posted by: Jennifer Gregory |
As any good SEO knows, backlinks can make or break your site. If your incoming links are from low value directory sites, or link farms, your rankings can drop like a stone overnight. And, now with Google’s restrictions on paid links, your site can get banned completely just for a harmless paid review.
So it’s getting more and more difficult to create quality backlinks to your site that play by the rules. Until Hubpages came along. Hubpages is a content sharing site that allows anyone to create an account for free and post articles (AKA “hubs”) to it for everyone to read.
Benefits to Hubpages
Hubpages followed in the footsteps of its predecessor, Squidoo, but in my opinion, has made some improvements over Squidoo. Here’s how…
- Hubs are easier to create than Squidoo lens’ - Full size images are easier to upload and configure. Hubpages allows modules to be positioned more easily on the page.
- Hubs get more traffic than Lens. Period. While Squidoo has more than 4 times the number of pages of content, Hubpages gets 4 times the traffic to each page! Check out these hubpages stats.
- Hubpages doesn’t allow porn and gambling pages, checks content to ensure there’s no duplicate content, no spammy, overly promotional hubs, and good quality, informative writing.
- The HubScore is helpful in ranking both the hub and the hubber (author). This makes it easy to find quality hubs to read, comment on, and regular hubpages contributors.
- Hubpages gives you a greater percentage of the income generated from the hub either from Adsense, eBay, or Amazon commissions.
Link Building with Hubpages
Ok, so you’ve got an account with Hubpages.com and you’ve posted your first hub. But, you noticed that the link you sent to your site is a rel=”nofollow” link. What a waste!
Don’t be so quick to dismiss. You can turn those nofollow links into dofollow links in three easy steps:
- Post 3 good quality hubs.
- Go find related hubs to your niche and post comments on a few.
- Become a fan of other hubbers who you enjoy reading.
That’s it! Hubpages updates your HubScore every 10 minutes. You need to get your own HubScore up to about a 78 or so (I think that’s when my nofollow links changed). It could take a day or two, but from then on any links in your current and future hubs will be dofollow!

Thank you for the content. The Squidoo vs. Hubzone was very helpful, as was your experience of score to get dofollow. I prefer a honest experience over a suppose to happen, let’s me better know what to expect.
