PPC vs SEO
| Posted by: Eric Cho |
There’s always talk about which strategy of generating traffic is better. The true loyal members in their departments have continuous arguments on why they are better but honestly, I think you need both to find out what works for your site. I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
PPC (Pay Per Click)
Advantages of PPC
- If want to get to the top of Google, Yahoo, or MSN, you could simply pay for it. No need for tedious link building or link baiting work to climb up in rankings.
- Any major algorithm changes wouldn’t effect your sales page.
- Use thousands of targeted keywords to get traffic.
- Ability to modify your creative ad display at any time.
- Fast way to track conversion and efficiency of your landing page.
- Excellent short strategy to earn quick cash.
Disadvantages of PPC
- Unfortunately is does cost money every time someone clicks on your ad, so make sure you are bidding on targeted keywords.
- People are becoming more aware of adwords and sponsored search results. They know that there will be advertisement for some product or service on the landing page. Some users may even see them as spamming and don’t trust the results given for particular keywords searched.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Advantages of SEO
- The organic results are all free unlike PPC.
- Huge profit margins once your pages are at the top of search engines.
- More visitors trust the organic search results and hence more traffic is generated compared to PPC ads once your page is above the fold of SERPs.
- Your websites’s ranking positions is dependent on your link popularity so you could be getting even more traffic from other websites while getting traffic from search engines. PPC can do this too through contexual ads but from experience they are extremely costly and in most cases a loss in profit.
Disadvantages of SEO
- It takes anywhere from 1 month to years before you’ll see the benefits of your site as you develop your link building campaigns.
- If there is a sudden tweak in algorithm, your site could easily drop out of search engines. Just make sure you follow all webmaster guidelines. No funny business.
