We’re Movin’ On Up: To the Top SERP
| Posted by: Summer Banks |
Search Engine Marketing. The term is one that is heard all over the web and for good reason. It is the aspect of SEM that makes a website more likely to climb up the SERP (search engine results page) and the SERP is where the majority of the traffic to a website is originated. But, how can you climb the SERP quickly and easily…you can’t.

The idea that marketing a website is something that will take no time at all and show instant results is a myth, at best. It can be better characterized as an absurdity. A quick look at any of the outsourcing bid sites will give you thousands of people demanding a #1 ranking for a specific keyword or keyphrase and even more individuals and companies who swear by the fact that they can make that happen. But, can a #1 ranking really occur overnight and with no work on your part? The answer is NO!
At this point discouragement is not an option. You can not let the fact that it will inevitably take hard work and dedication to move your website up the SERP get you down. Take it as a kick in the behind to work harder and more efficiently on gaining that traffic and that visibility that everyone wants and needs to make their website the best in the biz.
How Can You Increase Your Rankings
There are many ways to increase the SERP of your website. From article directories, to anchor text link placement, to Google adwords. The world is your oyster and all you have to do is work hard to make that pearl become a reality.
The article directory sites are unique in that many have a high SERP when you choose them to place your article linking back to your website. If you are trying to gain SERP, go ahead and place that article on more than one article directory at a time. Don’t over do it though. Carefully pick top quality article directories and only submit a few. The quality of the article is very important as well.
Anchor text link placement is a whole other form of beast. These links are often placed on forums and in comment boxes all over the web. Make sure, however, when using this type of search engine marketing, to make the comment or post relevant and not just a SPAMMY style set of words. You will gain more if you take the time to choose posts and blogs that are related to your website than just plopping those links all over the web.
Google adwords are there for the business that has a little clout about them already. The Google adwords is a pay or placement program that arbitrarily places your website link on various websites and blogs throughout the web. The cost of these links is set by the owner of the website or the webmaster and a budget is set in order to keep costs low.
Living life as a web entrepreneur is not something that is easy. You have to work hard and work smart in order to make your website move up the SERP. Beware any company that hops in there and offers to give you a #1 ranking for just a few pennies.
