What Do Search Engine Optimizers Do in a Day

People at work walk pass me and wonder what the heck do I do all day? They think I’m either playing games, listening to music, or just surfing youtube having the time of my life (even though some of it might be partially true, I still do a fair bit of work). Actually do refine it a bit more , lets look at what I do part time, since most SEO gurus would of started at this point I’m guessing.

Im going to skip all the planning I’ve done and assume I have a website up and running. So here it is. I get home, tired and hungry after a days work, (but still very enjoyable since its SEO work and I’m in love with my job):

1/ Check e-mail - I clear up all the junk and go through the relevant emails. There’s always spammy link exchange emails from sourcing companies offering a link on their pages that have a million outbound links. Delete. Newsletters I keep and read. Education is important in this industry. Delete notices about a message left for me from other sites like Rentacoder or Digital Point. All this cleaning up would probably take me about 15-20mins.

2/ Check my statistics - Check how much I’ve made today, check how many unique visitors, check keywords people have typed in to find my site. This gets a little addictive sometimes checking statistics. Don’t procrastinate with this task for too long. Usuauly its consistent week in week out. Unless Im doing some in depth research on keywords, this shouldn’t take any longer then 10 mins.
3/ Check outsourced jobs - With so many projects going on, theres always messages from coders who are working for me. This gets a bit tedious sometimes, but it has to be done. Projects like new content, new link exchange deals, website designs, technical issues, etc. This probably takes up to an hour of my time.

4/ Getting links - I might do this once a week now since search engines want more natural links and I focus more on quality these days. Either through Sponsoredreviews, Blogsvertise, Digital Point forum, or plain old fashion emailing other quality websites in the same market as me for link exchanges.

5/ Blogging - Im trying to post once a day now but I get so bogged down sometimes on my other sites, it takes a bit of time managing and improvement on my behalf.

Somewhere along the lines, I’d have to eat dinner. Of course there’s always other distractions I need to deal with while Im trying to get all this done including a little energetic dog jumping on me every night, the coincidental video and pizza deal I get from downstairs, a phone call from so and so “hey let’s go drinking…” etc etc etc. These are the sort of things that happen to everyone and we have to deal with it. It’s no easy task operating an online business while trying to balance the activities in our daily lives. Do a little bit of work at a time. Like they say, “it won’t happen over night, but it will happen”.
